On January 7, Weichai held the Heavy Commercial Vehicle Power Technology Conference in Beijing. A new product, 13L-displacement WP13 engine, attracted everyone present. The engine marked another update in Weichai Power's product portfolio.
WP13 engine is the high-power engine with high reliability, low fuel consumption, safety and environmental friendliness Weichai designs for on-road freight truck market. It is developed based on the mature 12L engine with subtle changes and solid design, carrying Weichai's dream to help the road transportation to achieve high speed, punctuality, cost saving, and cleanness, and it will bring customers superior value experiences.
Excellent performance redefines the standard of heavy-duty truck engines
Currently, some of the heavy-duty truck engines on the market are with poor reliability and power shortage, which make them vulnerable in the long-distance transportation. The absence of vehicles not only will affect the transport efficiency, but also will affect the logistics companies' image.
The new WP13 engine will completely change the current market situation. It is understood that the MTBF of WP13 engine exceeded 250,000 km mileage, and the B10 life was more than 1.2 million km. Its power range covered 480HP-550HP, and the maximum torque was 2500N • m, reaching the top level among the engine with same displacement around the world and meeting the power demand of all future heavy trucks. The speed under maximum torque was extended to 1000 r/min, bring stronger gradibility and becoming the perfect choice for domestic trucks.
WP13 adopts engine block with support and dry liner to withstand higher load impact. The special heating water-separator can heat up, remove water, and empty air at the same time, more stable than the single-component system. The engine can directly start with no aid measures at -15℃, and can smoothly start with preheating at -40℃. The vehicle performance is good in the arctic environment. The ultra low power loss on the plateau of 4700 meters above sea level makes the engine more competitive for its high altitude adaptability. In addition, WP13 also has a compact structure and a wide range of application.

In addition, WP13's split cylinder heads and cylinder head cover, dry cylinder liner, low-noise engine block, helical gear design, and rear gear chamber greatly reduce mechanical noises. The engine has been tested in the largest anechoic test chamber in China at Weichai for over 10,000 hours of validation, to achieve low noise and more comfortable driving experience.
Aside from the high production process maturity, WP13 also fully shared WP12’s excellent international supplier system to effectively guarantee components’ quality. The application performance of WP13 has been mature, thanks to the interface fully inherited from WP12, which would solve the difficult problem of matching and save the re-design cost of matching for customers.
