At the New Technology Launch Conference named "Intelligent Power Redefines Productivity" hosted by Weichai Power Co., Ltd. In Beijing on January 7, 2014, Super Brake assisting braking safety technology, S-POWER intelligent control technology, and other commercial vehicle technologies were launched. Also launched at the conference, were the 13L heavy truck engine using these technologies.

The current heavy truck developing trend is towards high speed and large loading capacity. Coustomers pay more attention to large displacement engines with lower overall fuel consumption, more environmental friendliness and more reliability. These are the new demands from heavy trucks in China.

It is understood that Weichai engine has excellent performance in reliability, fuel economy and power. Weichai gives great efforts to make the maximum torque closer to the lower end to enhance the driving ability of heavy-loaded vehicles in complex terrain. In order to improve engine reliability, Weichai developed more stringent test conditions and created the in-depth mechanical development process based on the absorption of the overseas experience combined with Chinese trucks' operating conditions, such as complex terrain, severe overloading, lack of maintenance, etc. As for the emission technology route, the use of SCR exhaust gas treatment technology with lower combustion pressure requirements will help improve the life and reliability of the engine.

It is known that the WP13 engine launched then was a high-power engine with high reliability, low fuel consumption, safety and environment friendliness, specially designed by Weichai for highway freight trucks and special vehicles. WP13 engine was developed based on the mature 12L engine. The MTBF of WP13 engine exceeded 250,000 km mileage, and the B10 life was more than 1.2 million km. Its power range covered 480HP-550HP, and the maximum torque was 2500N • m, reaching the top level among the engine with same displacement around the world and meeting the power demand of all future heavy trucks. The speed under maximum torque was extended to 1000 r/min, bring the gradibility to a new level.

Meanwhile, WP13 adopts engine block with support and dry liner to withstand higher load impact. The special heating water-separator can heat up, remove water, and empty air at the same time, more stable than the single-component system. The engine can directly start with no aid measures at -15℃, and can smoothly start with preheating at -40℃. The vehicle performance is good in the arctic environment. The ultra low power loss on the plateau of 4700 meters above sea level makes the engine more competitive for its high altitude adaptability. In addition, WP13 also has a compact structure and a wide range of application.
